About
I’m Flea. For the benefits of the biped readers, I’m a cat.
This blog is about my life in Cannes. I give my courtiers a mention from time to time - if they’re good. But, this is really all about me and my experiences on the Còte D’Azur. Besides, I wouldn’t want to dilute my insightful accounts, observations and advice with the sycophantic drivel to which my human courtiers seem so partial.
Before you rush off and lose yourself in daydreams of sun, sea, fine cuisine, eminently quaffable wine, outrageously impractical sports cars, stupendously oversized super-yachts and possibly the worlds highest concentration of eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, know a little more about me and my courtiers.
The life and times of Flea
My real name is Baby. Thankfully, since I am a feisty male, my courtiers have agreed to call me Flea.
I retired to Cannes in December 2007. I lost track of my age some time ago but I guess I’m in my early 70s (about 15 human years).
I think I was born in London. I can’t be sure because, well, you know how early memories can be a bit sketchy. My current courtiers (what you bipeds wishfully call ‘owners’) don’t know either, but we’re all pretty certain I grew up there.
The courtiers
Courtiers, what can one say about them without sounding excessively elitist? I’ve had a few in my time but, to be fair, these ones are pretty good as courtiers go. I suppose I’d better tell you about them.
Adrian and Anabela (Park) are both born and bred Zimbabweans. They’ve never taken the time to tell me as much but I’ve calculated that they moved to London in 1998. I recruited them as courtiers in September 2005 and it was soon apparent to me that they were less than happy in London.
This was an opportunity not to be missed. So, with my impending retirement, I set about formulating a plan and manipulating their unhappiness to engineer a comfortable retirement for myself on the French Riviera. Humans are wont to excuse their failings with the claim “[t]he best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. Men - and mice - would do well to take some advice from me. I’m retired in Cannes. Nothing awry about that is there?
Bonne journée!
